Single-Sex Lunches Prove Beneficial to School Children

Written By: Walter Hoerman MD - Mar• 11•11

I just throw this out for discussion, but I know most schools won’t consider this as it is too outside the box…

“Single-sex lunches are being introduced into schools as a way to improve eating habits. Not only have schools reported that kids are actually eating and also finishing their lunches, but they have also found that separating the girls from the boys has resulted in a reduction of misbehavior.

In Wichita, Kansas, three middle schools have implemented the single-sex lunches with positive results. The students are between the ages of 11 and 14 — just the age where teasing, rough-housing, and flirting all become prominent behaviors. By separating the lunch periods by sex, there has been drastic reduction of those behaviors at all three schools.”
